This is my first THATCamp so I’m not too sure about how play, teach, and make sessions work. Pretty sure I don’t want a talk session, though. In any case, I’m excited to find out more about how THATCamp works and meet y’all.

I’m starting a project using land surveys from the eighteenth century and want to explore and learn more about how other people are using such historical maps in geographic information systems and web mapping, anything from georeferencing to text and feature extraction to the many things that I’m sure that I’m entirely unaware of. I’m currently using QGIS and not bothering with ArcGIS anymore, but I’m also interested in web apps like Google Maps, Palladio, and so on.

first of all, let me thank you for your registration. It seems that a good number of participants would be interested in text mining and text encoding practice. (especially those of you who work in English Departments). So I was thinking that we may start thinking about sessions and eventually a workshop on text Mining or Text Encoding. The workshops will take place Thursday morning, and are supposed to be short (45min max). Would some of you be interested in leading sessions or a workshop of those issues? I know that John Laudun knows a lot about text Encoding. I look forward to meeting you all.

We are very excited to announce that the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will host its first THATCamp. It will take place on Wednesday, March 4 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM, and Thursday, March 5 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. While in the area, participants should also consider attending the Louisiana Historical Association’s annual conference (March 5-7) that will follow THATCamp in Lafayette.

This blog will cover any updates or relevant information leading up to and following the event. Registration will be open by mid-January 2015. Be sure to check back on us in January as more gears are put into motion. Until then, go to THATcamp.org for more information. See you this spring!
